Welcome to our new members who joined us on Saturday!  We hope you will enjoy the training sessions and programs offered by our trainers.  Our dog show is on 13th July 2019.  We would love to see you enter!

CLUB ACTIVITY

We have had a few large new intakes.  It is wonderful to see the different breeds of dogs brought to the club for training, viz: GSD, Belgian Malinois, Jack Russel Terrier, Dachshund, Fox Terrier, Yorkshire Terrier, Cocker Spaniel, Toy Pom, Pit Bull, Labrador, Doberman, English Springer Spaniel, Golden Retriever, Maltese, Border collie and several cross breeds.  It would be interesting to ask the members who the most intelligent dog in the club is (their opinion of course)!

We are having our annual quiz and potjie on Saturday, 11th May.  There is always great interest in the event, but this year it will be slightly different.  Charl suggested a 30-Second type game, and Samantha has taken the idea and run with it!  Please study the dog’s anatomy, famous dogs, Hollywood dogs and dog breeds, which will help you on the day.  The quiz will be followed by a potjie!

We train with treats and comfortable waist treat bags are for sale from Ruben on Saturdays.  They are R110 each and the small treat bag is R70 – stock is limited.  Leashes are R70.

KATYA’S COOKIES

1 tin bully beef/tomato pilchards

3 eggs

3/4 cup milk/water

3 tbl coconut oil melted

3 cups bran rich self-raising wheat flour

Mince the bully beef till fine. Heating it makes it easier.

Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well.

The mixture must be not too dry and not too sloppy.

Spray a flat/cookie pan and sift flour all over the bottom.

Spoon the mixture into the pan and roll it out to fill the pan’s edges about 4mm thick.

Press 20x20mm squares into the dough with a long smooth knife.

Bake at a low temperature (80-100 deg) for an hour to one and a half hours till hard.

Check that the bottom doesn’t burn when oven is too hot. Cookies can also be flipped around with an egg-lifter in order for it to cook all over evenly.

When cooled break squares.  – LOANI

QUESTION: DOES YOUR DOG’S NAME SUIT HIS PERSONALITY?

Odin’s name suits him very well as he has taken the senior role in the household. Boris’ name suits him well as he doesn’t realise his own size and would fight with any dog.

Then there is Vicky. Vicky’s name means Victory and Triumph in Latin. I personally feel that Satan would’ve been more suitable.

CHRISTO

Yes, Aysha’s name definitely matches her personality. The meaning of her name is Women and Life. She is as unpredictable as most women and full of life …maybe we should have selected a name meaning “calmness and serenity”?

VANESSA

His name is Jack from the movie Pirates of the Caribbean-Captain Jack Sparrow.

He definitely thinks he’s the captain, steals food like a pirate and sometimes has a drinking problem (by accident)

DANIELLE

Skelta: Definitely! Skelta helter-skelters all over the place.  Have you ever watched him chase a dumbbell?  He chases it while it is in the air, catches it after one bounce, does a sharp turn and brings it back.

CARLOS

It does suit his personality.  His name is Zuko, named after a cartoon character, who’s a rebellious prince.  He is strong, energetic, agile, smart, but also confrontational/dominant, especially towards other dogs.

LEMONGANG

We have a few budding entrepreneurs who have joined the club.  Please let us know if you have a young enterprise, which we can highlight in our newsletters – come one, we are just waiting for a yummy treat baker – then we don’t have to put our dogs through the agony of eating treats containing preservatives!

MAINTENANCE

The grounds look spic ‘n span, thanks to Elvis and his hard-working team, although in summer we can hear the grass grow growing and manicured grounds are not always possible.   We need assistance with maintenance and improvements.  All members will be sent a notice to assist.  We wish to put together a 1-day work party, followed by a bring ‘n braai.  The club hasn’t had a work party get-together for a long time, and we look forward to spending time with you!
